New Farnley 1st XI 220-7 beat Woodlands 1st XI 212-7 by 8 runs
New Farnley bounced back from their recent Priestley Cup final defeat as they lifted the Heavy Woollen Cup for a 6th time after a thrilling eight-run victory over Bradford Premier Cricket League rivals Woodlands at The Barry Jackson Ground.
In front of a fantastic Bank Holiday crowd, New Farnley were asked to bat first and posted a competitive 220-7 from their 48 overs. Steve Bullen was the star of the innings, producing a superb final’s knock of 80 from 133 balls, including eight fours and two sixes.
Bullen received excellent support from Aidan Langley (30) before Ed Brown changed the tempo with an outstanding 53 from just 40 deliveries. Their 80-run partnership put New Farnley in a strong position and allowed the hosts to finish with a total they believed they could defend.
Woodlands’ reply was always competitive. Matty Weston led the way with 54, while Brad Schmulian added 46 and Henry Pearson 43 as the visitors moved to 189-5 and looked well placed to chase down the target.
But, just when Woodlands appeared to be gaining control, New Farnley found another gear. Abhay Negi and Adam Ahmed both struck three wickets apiece, while some outstanding fielding under pressure kept the visitors in check.
With Woodlands needing 16 in the latter stages, Pearson was brilliantly caught by Brown on the boundary off Fletcher Coutts proving to be the decisive moment. Woodlands eventually finished on 212-7, leaving New Farnley victorious by eight runs.
It was a magnificent team performance and a particularly satisfying result after Woodlands had beaten New Farnley by the same margin in the Priestley Cup Final just a couple of weekends ago at Lightcliffe.
The Heavy Woollen Cup is back at The Barry Jackson Ground β and New Farnley are champions once again! πππ
Congratulations to all the players, coaches, committee, bar staff, volunteers and supporters who played their part before, during and after in another memorable day for New Farnley Cricket Club.

My band The Cardinals had the pleasure of playing at the club this weekend. The staff were lovely. Really accommodating. It was easy and accessible to get our equipment in. The club itβs self is a modern vibrant space and the audience were equally lovely. They were up singing and dancing from the very first song. We had an absolute blast. Defo will be returning next year. RecommendedPosted on Google![]()

I hired New Farnley Cricket Club for my two boysβ joint birthday party and it was fantastic. We had all the outside alongside the cricket ground, right to the bottom where we were allowed to have a giant inflatable slide. There was a cricket match on at the same time as the party but it didnβt get in the way and we had so much space for the kids to play in. Inside we had room for the food and DJ and a little dance floor . Very nice service and staff on the bar and grounds. A lovely experience would definitely recommend for party. Thank you! We've had a number of corporate events at New Farnley CC now and each one has been brilliant. The staff do all they can to ensure everyone is comfortable and looked after. The added bonus of being able to use the outdoor greens for summer events is great - we played cricket, rounders and boules after a lovely BBQ - all of which was set up for us by the team at the cricket club. I can highly recommend the venue for anyone considering a private event in the area.Posted on Google![]()
