House On Fire As England Smash Greycaps

England Over 50’s produced a sensational batting display at New Farnley Cricket Club on Sunday afternoon to complete a comprehensive six-wicket victory over New Zealand Over 50’s, chasing down a challenging target of 263 with remarkable ease in just 30.3 overs.

The star of the show was undoubtedly Will House, whose breath-taking innings of 112 from just 73 deliveries completely took the game away from the tourists. The former county cricketer peppered the boundary with 19 fours and two sixes, registering his second Over 50’s international century and continuing a remarkable start to his international career. Having already scored 93 and 107, House has now amassed 312 runs in his first three O50Is, underlining his status as one of England’s standout performers. He was well supported by Richard Trotman (46) and Andrew Bairstow (33) as England raced to victory in emphatic fashion.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand looked to have posted a competitive total after finishing on 262/4 from their 45 overs. Colin Owens anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 84, his highest score at international level, while Richard Petrie provided excellent support with 54 not out as the pair frustrated England’s bowlers during the closing stages. However, England kept the scoring under control for much of the innings, with Stephen Foster marking his return to the side in style by claiming 2-40. In doing so, Foster became only the fifth England Over 50’s bowler to reach the landmark of 50 international wickets, a fitting achievement on an excellent all-round day for the hosts.

For New Farnley supporters, it was a pleasure to welcome international Over 50’s cricket back to The Barry Jackson Ground, while former New Farnley wicketkeeper-batsman Craig Russell proudly represented England Over 50’s in front of a healthy crowd. The fixture was played in a fantastic atmosphere, with spectators enjoying an entertaining afternoon of cricket in glorious sunshine.

New Zealand, who arrived in Yorkshire on the back of comfortable victories over Scotland, were given a timely reminder of England’s strength and depth. The two sides will renew their rivalry when they meet again at Scarborough on Monday 27th July 2026, with the visitors eager to level the series after England’s commanding performance in New Farnley.
