Yorkshire Over 60s 320-9 (45 overs) beat Cheshire Over 60s 85 all out (30.5 overs) by 235 runs
Neal Jackson produced a superb century to inspire Yorkshire Over 60s to a commanding 235-run victory over Cheshire at the magnificent Barry Jackson Ground, New Farnley.
Jackson was the cornerstone of Yorkshire’s innings, compiling a brilliant 126 from just 105 deliveries, striking 21 fours and 1 six in a masterclass of positive batting. His innings combined elegant stroke play with controlled aggression, allowing Yorkshire to post an imposing 320-9 from their 45 overs.
After Martin Watkin helped lay the foundations with 21, Jackson shared valuable partnerships throughout the innings. Captain Graham Shaw contributed 27, Colin Frank added 28, Graham Sivyer made a fluent 27, while late contributions from Geoff Schofield (12), Muhammad Zahid (14), Kevin Watson (7) and Brent Thompson (15*) ensured Yorkshire finished with an outstanding total.
Cheshire’s bowlers stuck to their task, with Zaheer Mohamed claiming three wickets and Simon Bolton and Paul Oliphant taking two apiece, but Jackson’s magnificent innings proved the defining feature of the contest.
Faced with a daunting target, Cheshire never recovered after losing early wickets. Yorkshire’s attack maintained relentless pressure, reducing the visitors to 25-1 before wickets fell at regular intervals.
Zahid was outstanding with the ball, returning impressive figures of 4 for 28 from his nine overs, while Kevin Watson struck early to remove Don Hurst. Mark Wilson claimed the key wicket of Mohamed and took an outstanding catch, Shaw got in on the act and Michael Kenyon wrapped up the innings with the final wicket.
Only Bolton, with 17, offered prolonged resistance as Cheshire were dismissed for 85 in 30.5 overs, sealing a comprehensive Yorkshire victory.
While Neal Jackson’s outstanding century rightly earned the headlines, the fixture itself was a tremendous advert for veterans’ cricket.
New Farnley proved exceptional hosts throughout the day. The Barry Jackson Ground was presented in immaculate condition, providing a superb wicket and outfield, while the facilities were widely admired by both teams. The teas were outstanding, the staff, volunteers and everyone associated with the club offered first-class hospitality from arrival until departure.
Players from both Yorkshire and Cheshire were unanimous in their praise for the welcome they received, commenting on the excellent organisation, friendly atmosphere and quality of the venue. It was a credit to New Farnley Cricket Club and reflected everything that is best about Yorkshire club cricket.
On the field, however, the day belonged to Neal Jackson. His magnificent 126 laid the platform for an emphatic Yorkshire victory and was the innings that defined an excellent day’s cricket played in the finest spirit.

This was my 1st visit to the club, I can say as many other cricket lovers know the arena is very well set up & friendly people as expected. I found it a great venue & will return next season , hopefully the clubhouse will be restored to its high standards after the arson attack few weeks ago.Posted on Google Andrew Conboy19/04/2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
