BBQ & Junior Training – 16/05/25

Let’s make the most of this glorious weather and pop down for a drink and a bite to eat today. New Farnley CC Cafe Bar & Dining is open for breakfast at 9:00am and Fish & Chips is on the menu at lunchtime up until 2:30pm. The bar is then open from 3:00pm onwards and our resident chef Michael Gardiner will be firing up the BBQ at 5:30pm. Junior practice starts at 6:00pm which is well organised by a handful of up and coming coaches. Club Chairman John Baldwin is a big advocate of seeing the club busy on/off the pitch and we are expecting a big turnout tonight after linking up with The Farnley Academy who use our excellent facilities on a Wednesday afternoon.

Cup Success For Our U18’s

Ed Denton’s U18s travelled over to Altofts in the first round of the Derek Taylor Knock Out Cup. Jack Lonsdale won the toss and chose to bat first with New Farnley making 195-4 from their 20 overs with runs for Alexander 43 (retired), Dan 40 (retired), Billy 31 and Jack 29. In reply, Altofts made 80 all out as all of our bowlers were used with wickets for Sam (4), Neel (2), Keane, Lily and Jake all with one each along with a run out. The team await the draw to find out their opponents in the next round.

Clean Sweep For Our Juniors

The toss was won by New Farnley U11’s skipper George Smith who put Gomersal into bat. With some tight bowling from Esa Shah (3 overs 2/5) along with many others, Gomersal finished 3 down with a net score of 268. The pick of the batters was Woodhead with 10 from 10 balls (2 fours). New Farnley’s batting innings got off to a flyer when Esa Shah hit 23 runs off 12 balls (5 fours and 1 six). Supported by Hasan Khan, Oli Lee and others, a fantastic penultimate over from Hodson resulted in 3 wickets and a close final over chase to come. However, Maxwell Swallow and Edward Long kept their nerve and batted out the final over, keeping their net score at 276. There was some incredible diving stops and solid wicket keeping too as New Farnley get the first game out of the way with a win matching our U13’s and U18’s.

Junior Round Up – 30/04/25

U13’s

Gomersal won the toss and put New Farnley in to bat first. New Farnley got off to a flyer when openers Tom Shuttleworth and Benji Thornhill quickly retired, Tom scoring 25 in 18 balls and Ben scoring 25 in 21 balls. This success spread through the team like wildfire as Lily Lonsdale, Artie Hoult, Musa Shah and Caleb Emmett all scored quick-fire runs. The pick of the bowlers was Neel Sharma who only went for 9 off 2 overs and New Farnley finished on the huge total of 196 without loss. The great start for New Farnley continued throughout the second half of the match. With wickets being taken quickly by Musa Shah (2-2), Max Swallow (1-7) and 4 others taking 1 wicket each, the only resistance in the Gomersal batting was S Shah (21 from 28 balls). The young Gomersal lineup finished on 61 All Out.

U18’s

Buttershaw St. Paul’s  won the toss and chose to bat making 138-4. Wickets for Jack Little (2) Keane Barker and Kaashif Yaqoob. In reply, New Farnley opened with Jack Lonsdale and Alexander Holt. They put on 50 with Alexander making 28 , Jack went on to retire on 43 not out along with Dan Marshall also retiring on 42 not out off just 14 balls. A cameo of 21 not out from George Lonsdale including 2 sixes saw the team home with 7 overs still to bat.

New Farnley Foxes Rounders Tournament – 27/04/25

The New Farnley Foxes Rounders Tournament went amazingly today. 10 teams turned up to play and brought some spectators with them along with the sun. Foxes A Team ended up getting to the Semi-Finals and the Foxes B team played really well together and got stronger each game they played. Aireborough Belters took 1st place and Sharks 2 finished runners up. Everyone had an amazing day and we are looking forward to the 2026 Tournament.

Chef To The Rescue

A huge shout out to our resident chef Michael Gardiner who heroically on Tuesday tea time saved the life of a man, seconds before the car he was in exploded into flames on Farnley Ring Road. Michael was driving on the Ring Road at around 5:45pm when he saw the car smoking, he wound down his window to ask the driver if he needed any help whilst everyone else drove past. He noticed that the passenger was a disabled man, he duly pulled up his car and with the help of another heroic man on the scene dragged him from his car into safety of the adjacent bus lay bye, seconds later the car exploded. The bravery saved the mans life.

Juniors Impress – 12/04/25

Lukas Ruane, Dom Edwards and Kai Watson all scored unbeaten half-centuries before retiring not out which helped us to a 3 wicket win over Gildersome & Farnley Hill. Junior Coach Jack Lonsdale was well-impressed with two of our aspiring juniors. “I just want to say a huge well done to Lily Lonsdale and Benji Thornhill for claiming their first senior wickets and how they applied themselves with the bat, they both should be very proud of themselves”.

Junior Outdoor Training

Starts on Friday 11th April 2025, 6:00pm until 7:30pm! It has been decided that to cover the cost of our new equipment and coaches hours, there will be a small fee of £2.00 to pay per attendee each week at training. There will be an assigned parent coming round with a list to check who has attended and to take the £2.00 (if you forget the £2.00, you can bring it to the next training and keep it rolling over). It’s set to be a warm one so while the kids tire themselves out, the adults can sit back and relax with a drink or two.

£1,000.00 Donation Received From Nisa Local Cross Lane

Nisa Cross Lane Lane donated £1,000 to New Farnley Cricket Club on 13th December 2024 through the MADL charity, part of Nisa Retail Limited. The funds reduced junior winter training fees to £24 per cricketer, easing financial pressure on parents. Head Coach Kai Watson thanked Prashant Pandya for the nomination, calling the support a “dream come true” for the club’s young athletes.
