Christmas Fayre

Our first ever Christmas Fayre was a brilliant success yesterday. Spearheaded by Leanne Heaton and her meticulous organisation in the build up and throughout the day was acknowledged by all of the stall holders, the committee and the whole community who turned up in their numbers. We had a guest appearance from The Grinch and a very big special mention must go to the hard-working bar staff who were rushed off their feet all afternoon as the tills kept on ringing. The choirs of Lawns Park Primary School and The Farnley Academy kept the crowd entertained by singing Christmas Carols and helped to raise monies towards their chosen charities which were Parkinson’s UK and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Andrew Lawson Biography

I am the Leeds/Bradford UCCE Head Coach and Head of Cricket at University of Leeds in the UK and an ECB Level 4 Coach as well as South African Level 3 Coach. Leeds/Bradford UCCE is one of the UCCE Schools of Cricketing Excellence around the UK, in which men and women come to university to study and have the opportunity to play cricket and pursue a cricket career, whilst studying.
I am a former First Class cricketer from South Africa having played for Border, Eastern Province, North West, SA Country Districts, SA President’s XI and MCC. I was Head Coach of North West Dragons in South Africa before moving over to Scotland permanently with my wife, Dee, my son, Hayden and daughter, Georgia in 2004 to take up a job with the Highland Perthshire Sports Trust. I soon became involved with Scottish Cricket, becoming the Assistant Coach to Scotland U19’s at the World Cup 2006 (Sri Lanka), Assistant Coach to the Scotland National team at the World Cup in 2007 (West Indies) and then to Holland at the T20 World Cup 2009 (London). We then moved to Wetherby in 2009 where a began my current role at the university. In 2015, I spent time with the Sydney Sixer’s at the Big Bash as part of my Coach Development. In 2021, I was Welsh Fire Ladies Assistant Coach in The Hundred. With regards to my personnel cricket, I have been a playing member of the MCC for 30 years, and also a playing member of the Royal Household Cricket Club in Windsor.
I am excited to take up this new role as the New Farnley First Team coach, and hope that I can continue the good work the former coaches, Paul Hutchinson and Ian Fisher have done over the last handful of years, and go from strength to strength as a team.
Kind Regards,
Andrew Lawson
Head Coach

Developers Support New Farnley Cricket Club

Owzat! Developers behind the new Stonebridge Beck residential development in Wortley have agreed a major sponsorship deal with a West Leeds sports club.

Rushbond Plc and Advent Developments have teamed up with New Farnley Cricket Club for the 2023 cricket season, as part of their joint community support programme.

Georgina Maud, speaking on behalf of the developers, said: “The club is located very close to Stonebridge Beck and I am sure it will prove a popular social destination for residents. Not only do they run a number of cricket teams for both adults and juniors, they also have a lovely club house which is open during the week, serving delicious food.”

John Baldwin, Chairman of New Farnley Cricket Club, commented: “I cannot thank Georgina and her colleagues enough for their most generous support.  Hopefully the residents will take advantage of all the club has to offer which includes a fully equipped gym.

“As someone who has spent a lifetime in the building industry I have watched the work being carried at Stonebridge Beck with interest. I have to say the whole scheme looks absolutely superb.”

On completion Stonebridge Beck will consist of 112 properties within a unique mill village location offering a choice of mill townhouses, cottages and new build homes. Prices start from £265,000.

The scheme is located on the former Stonebridge Mills site off Stonebridge Lane, next to the ring road.
